Sheltered Outdoor Courts (Gippsland Grammar School – Bairnsdale, Oatlands Primary School- Narre Warren, Nyora Primary School)
We have recently developed a unique, practical and economical design for construction of sheltered play ground areas, such as basketball and netball courts. Our design for a roof over a standard outdoor basketball court area (20m x 34m) would require only of 6 pre-cast concrete columns supporting a curved “space frame” roof design allowing for greater open span and clear height for the covered area. Since the unique design requires half the number of columns of a traditional “shed style” structure, there is vertually no impact on the playing area, and the curved design not only moves the base of the column further from the play area, it also provide a very striking visual impact.
The design allows for easy installation of external walls to protect against prevailing winds and rain. This would then extend the use of the facility to whole of school assemblies, meetings, music and arts events.
The modular nature of our design allows the structure to be of any length required.
Except for the foundation and footings, all other components are pre-fabricated off site and transported to the site for erection. This helps to reduce the construction time spent on the school grounds, thus minimising the inconvenience to the school and maximising the overall safety of the construction operation.
