Roof Mounted Solar Installation Services

Gamcorp provides detailed structural assessment and certification that is regularly required for the installation of roof mounted array frames for installation in Australia & New Zealand. The assessments calculates the structural capacity of the roof by ensuring there is adequate strength in roof area when additional wind loads and weights are imposed. Our assessment ensures that your clients and project certifiers know that their buildings are structurally safe and that you have taken measures to ensure an effective and capable design.

Our fees to provide the Solar Installation Assessment Services that involves one or more array frame type (ie Flush mount or Tilt mount) is based on the number of Structural Roof Areas1 on a building. If the installation is non-standard, a quote will be provided for the certification fee.

All requests for Solar Array Installation Assessment Services can be sent via email, website or our Client Portal.

Once we have received all the required information, the Solar Array Installation Assessment will typically be completed in 3 - 5 working days.

Structural Roof Assessment

The Structural Roof Assessment is predominantly used when you already have an understanding of the system you are looking at installing and can provide us with a PV Layout. This information, coupled with Structural drawings will allow us to determine the building’s adequacy for supporting the additional imposed loads for a specific installation.

  4. Structural Roof Plan (if available)
  5. Photos of roof structure and roof sheeting

Procedure:

  1. Request Structural Roof Assessment via email, website or Client Portal and provide required Inputs
  2. Gamcorp completes structural assessment based on proposed PV layout and structural details provided.
  3. Gamcorp notifies client if any of the roof area or PV layout criteria are not satisfactory.

  4. Gamcorp completes Solar Array Installation Compliance Certificate and email to the Project Manager.

Pricing:

Pricing is based on the number of different buildings and roof structure areas on the site. The base fee for a single building with one type of roof structure is $800.00 ex GST. For a building with more than one structural roof area1 an incremental fee of $450.00 ex GST per additional roof area.

Roof Area Inspection

If there is inadequate structural information of the particular building you are looking to install your PV layout on, Gamcorp can perform a Site Inspection where we come to site and measure the required information for us to proceed with the structural assessment. More guidelines are found on the Pre-inspection Checklist which can be requested.

  3. Nominated PV Installation Area

Procedure:

  1. Request Roof Area Inspection via email, website or Client Portal and provide required Inputs
  2. Gamcorp coordinates inspection with client and/or building owner. Arranges EWP and other safe access equipment as required.
  3. For sites > 200km from Melbourne CBD Gamcorp will engage a local building inspector where appropriate.
  4. The roof area inspection will gather all details required to complete the Site Assessment Checklist.

Deliverables:

  1. Completed Site Assessment Checklist
  2. Photos of the roof structure, roof sheeting and any other relevant items

Pricing:

Pricing is based on the number of different buildings and PV installation areas on the site. The base fee for a single building with one installation area is $450.00 ex GST. For each additional building or PV installation area on the same site an incremental fee of $250.00 ex GST per additional roof area. Additional Travel charges are added to this proposal and is priced according to the distance from the Gamcorp office on a round trip.

Site Specific Array Frame Engineering Certificate

If you are looking to use a particular Array Frame that needs special requirements that are not found in the general certification from the manufacturer then we can perform a Site Specific Array Frame Certification which can check whether the Array you are planning to use can work in the parameters that fall out of the particular general certification. A common example of this is on buildings that are greater than 20m in height and/or embedded into concrete roof etc.

  2. Gamcorp completes structural assessment based on the site specific parameters provided.
  3. Gamcorp completes Site Specific Array Frame Engineering Certificate and email to the Project Manager.

Pricing:

Pricing is based on the number of unique array frame configurations. The fee is $1,100.00 ex GST for one site specific PV array configuration.

Pallet Load Assessment

While in the installation process, many installers drop Pallets of significant weight on the roof temporarily. This wait can have a huge implication on the integrity of the building, even if it is for a very short period of time. The Pallet Load Assessment determines whether the building can withstand these temporary loads and gives guidance on the best locations to drop these loads while going through the installation process.

  2. Gamcorp completes structural assessment based on nominated landing areas and maximum pallet weight.
  3. Gamcorp prepares Pallet Load Assessment Compliance Certificate and email to the Project Manager.

Pricing is based on the number of different pallet landing areas. The fee is $900.00 ex GST for each pallet landing zone.

What is Roof Area Optimisation?

Over our time here at Gamcorp we have been listening to your frustrations, streamlining our processes and improving communications to better help you achieve your end result.

As a result we have been creating a service that provides you with the PV Array installation criteria at an earlier stage in the PV design process. Reducing your overall work and ensuring the structural integrity prior to committing a system to your clients.

With the same information you would normally provide for a Standard Roof assessment, we will evaluate the roof areas you nominate to give you the optimal amount of panels for all the relevant systems your company offers such as:

  • Flush Mount
  • Tilt Mount 5⁰
  • Tilt Mount 10⁰
  • Tilt Mount 15⁰

We know this does not apply to all job types, for most of the smaller projects the current Structural Roof Assessment process, you know well, will suffice..

An example of the ‘Roof Area Optimisation’ roof plan, showing wind pressure zones, maximum wind pressure in Pa, PV Array Frame installation and fixing types and spacing can be seen below in the two & 4 Zone cases.

A table will be provided that acts as a legend to the specific roof zones. This ‘Optimal PV Panels Installation Zones’ table also explains that according to each PV system type, certain types of design considerations are required to complete the installation in the particular zones.

Therefore, with this information you can design the PV Layout to maximise the energy output knowing that the roof will be structurally sufficient.

  3. Client determines optimal PV Layout to meet project energy goals within specifications of Roof Capacity Report and emails the PV Layout to the Gamcorp Job Manager
  4. Gamcorp completes Installation Compliance Certificate and Installation Guide and emails to the Project Manager.

Pricing is based on the number of different buildings and roof structure areas on the site. The base fee for a single building with one type of roof structure is $2000.00 ex GST. For a building with more than one structural roof area1 an incremental fee of $700.00 ex GST per additional roof area.

Roof Area Optimisation Plus

Information Required:

  1. Site Address
  2. Nominated Roof Installation Area
  3. Structural Roof Plan or Site Assessment Checklist

Procedure:

  1. Request Roof Area Optimisation PLUS via email, website or Client Portal and provide required Inputs. Structural drawings must be provided for RAO Plus.
  2. Gamcorp completes roof capacity assessment and provides Roof Capacity Report for both panels and pallet loads.
  3. Client determines optimal PV Layout to meet project energy goals within specifications of Roof Capacity Report and emails the PV Layout to the Gamcorp Job Manager and the preferred pallet drop zones.
  4. Gamcorp completes Detailed Installation Compliance Certificate, Installation guide and Pallet load assessment and emails to the Project Manager.

1 A Structural Roof Area is defined as an area of roof that has the same structural configuration. Ie. the purlin types, spacing, span, roof slope, etc. For sites with multiple buildings, if a building is of a different size (height, width , depth) it must be assessed as a separate structure.
